Day 14

 The last day! 

We didn't have much planned for today since we are traveling home tomorrow and want to be well-rested. That being said, we still wanted to be able to get the kids out of the cabin for at least part of the day. Again, we were up against the weather forecast which was showing thunderstorms for much of the day today. 

We took our time waking up, having breakfast, and getting ready. We got lucky and the weather in the morning was great. Our cabin is located just next to the Strachankovo family park, so we were waiting for that to open (at 10AM) so that we could take the kids over and have some fun. At the park, the kids saw cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, kittens, and more. We had just moved up to the playground area when we felt the first raindrop. Hoping that it would pass, we kept playing and Luke even tried out the jumping bag, where he jumped off a platform onto a big inflatable bag about 15ft below. He seemed to enjoy it at first, but then realized he had gotten all wet because the bag was soaked from the rain the day before. Moments later, the skies opened and there was a huge downpour complete with lightning and thunder. 

We took refuge back in our cabin. When the storm had eased slightly, I went out into town to get an easy lunch from the grocery store and some gifts at a souvenir shop. Back at the cabin, we had some lunch while Ryan napped. Eventually the storm passed and we went back to the family park a few more times to round out the day. For dinner, we had found a nice spot in town for our final meal. We both had garlic soup (our favorite) and Jessica ordered the Mediterranean chicken and salad while I had some venison goulash. The kids shared a plate of chicken and french fries. For our last meal, it was great. After we were done, discovered a play area just outside where Luke jumped on a trampoline and Ryan ran around.

Back at the cabin, we got the kids to bed (a little easier today) and did some packing for our flights before calling it an early bedtime!

Everyone is looking forward to returning home tomorrow!

 It's Adam yet again!  Well...cooped up on top of a mountain, I guess it can be expected that we did not sleep all that well. I woke up in the middle of the night with a stuffy nose and sweating because our room had gotten so warm. Jessica and Ryan were awake on and off throughout the night. I think Luke was the only one who got a solid night of sleep. The only advantage of this is that it made it pretty easy to pop out of bed when my 4:30am alarm went off to hopefully go see the sunset. I first checked the (now cracked open) window in our room, half expecting everything to still be completely in clouds, but nope, just as our waiter friend promised, the sun was just starting to peek out over the mountaintops.  Not wanting the next storm to come through before I missed my chance, I hurried upstairs and out into the observation platforms. Day 3

 Jessica here, today! Day 3 was off to a much better start. We all got a decent night's sleep and the boys even let us sleep in until 6:30am. How kind. Breakfast consisted of some salami, cheese, grapes, and veggie straws. Adam and Luke went out on a final kayak ride while Ryan and I finished packing. We said good bye to our first Airbnb, and made the quick journey to Orava Castle. Adam was able to take some excellent drone pictures before we started the trek to the ticket booth. We braved the steep walk up the cobbled pathway, Ryan in the baby carrier and Luke on foot, and made it with 2 minutes to spare before opening. There were many guides along the way directing us into various rooms and exhibits. Luke and Ryan even got to see their very first torture chamber! Thankfully, Luke was a champ walking up all the steps with only mild complaints. Ryan, on the other hand, was on my back the whole time. Day 13

Only one more day to go! It feels crazy that we've made it 13 days so far. Day 13 began with an early wake up call around 6:15am to finish packing and have breakfast before checking out of our forest cabin/chalet. Jessica and I discussed and we definitely think this was our favorite location that we stayed so far during the stop - so it was sad to be leaving. With the weather being a bit troublesome the last couple days, we were hoping that our fortunes would change. After checking the forecast for today and driving to our next destination about an hour away in Zdiar, it seemed it was going to be a cloudy day with light rain showers off and on. At this point, we deemed this weather acceptable because it still allowed us to be outside. We could not afford to be cooped up with the kids all day!  Zdiar is located on the eastern side of the Tatras mountain range in northern Slovakia, right along the Polish border.
