Day 6

Jessica again for Day 6!. Despite what Adam may claim, I did in fact put both boys to bed AND have to write the blog tonight.

The morning started off a little later than usual with everyone sleeping in until 6:30am. What a treat. Unfortunately, that threw off our departure time a bit. Our day today consisted of making the drive to to our next main destination - Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. We quickly made breakfast, packed and got ourselves ready, and made it out the door by 7:45am, an impressive feat. Luke was a little sad to leave the trampoline, but I'm sure we will find another one in the near future. After a two hour drive, our first stop of the day was the city of Trencin, which is home to a very impressive castle. Even more impressive was the steepness of the hill we had to push the stroller up. Yesterday's hike did little to prepare us for this. Once we made it to the top (barely), we went to the courtyard of the castle and were greeted with farm animals. Luke and Ryan were ecstatic to see chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats, and sheep. They had a blast running around and meeting all the animals. We hiked a little further into the castle, but were soon met with stairs. Adam continued alone while I somehow managed to maneuver the stroller back down to the farm to give the boys more time with their beloved animals. One our way out, we ran into some owls, falcons, and hawks. Luke couldn't believe his luck. The only way we could convince him to leave was with the promise of more animals.

We departed Trencin and made the short drive to our lunch destination just outside the town of Beckov. This restaurant had a large playset for older kids, and a smaller play area for babies/toddler, and you guessed it, more animals. Luke and Ryan both were able to play while we ordered food and patiently waited for it. On the menu today was confit duck breast for Adam, schnitzel for me, and chicken, peas, and rice for the boys. The food did not disappoint. From here, we only had an hour drive left to Bratislava.

Once we made it into the city, we parked in an underground lot, and lugged all of our things to the apartment Airbnb that we were staying in. Luke immediately made himself at home with the TV turned on to Octonauts (his favorite Netflix TV show as of late). Ryan meandered around the apartment, while Adam and I unpacked a little and settled in. Once we had a few hours to relax, we were off again to explore the city and head to dinner.

Adam and I visited Bratislava almost 13 years ago as part of our first Europe backpacking trip in 2010. Though we don't remember every detail, this city brought back memories. We stopped in the main square, with Luke checking out every fountain. The brewpub-style restaurant for dinner (Metiansky Pivovar) was a short walk, and we were greeted with a mostly empty space. We had made a reservation, but perhaps it wasn't necessary. For dinner, Adam ordered the beef goulash, I ordered a roasted green "salad" that consisted of green beans, asparagus, fava beans, feta cheese and chopped nuts, and a burger. We also got an apple strudel to split. The food arrived quickly and it was amazing. We devoured it, completely.

We left the restaurant and walked around the city a little bit more, noticing that the restaurants were now really starting to fill up. The people were definitely out. The boys found a misty arch in the main square and enjoyed playing in it for a few minutes. We wrapped up the evening back in the apartment, where both boys are currently sleeping, and Adam and I are not far behind. Tomorrow is a full day in Bratislava. We are looking forward to it!
