Day 7

It's Adam again. Finally a bit of a relaxing day! We "slept in" until almost 7AM and just had a relaxing morning in our apartment. Since our Airbnb is located right in the middle of Old Town Bratislava, we could just walk right out the front door to start our sightseeing. After having some breakfast, we headed out into the town a little after 9AM. We walked through the old town and saw St. Martin's Cathedral, some side streets, and then went through St. Michael's Gate and began the ascent to the Bratislava Castle.

Believe it or not, our main reason to climb the hill to the castle was not actually to see the castle, but because there was a playground located in the park just outside the castle gates. The climb wasn't the steepest one that we had encountered thus far, but there were some stairs - which are difficult to navigate with a stroller. At the playground, the kids got a good chance to stretch the legs and Luke played with his "sea creature" toys. From there, since we were so close to the castle, we did happen to pop into the castle grounds and gardens.

After seeing the castle gardens, we started walking back down and then across town for our lunch at.....McDonalds! We needed something easy McD's hit the spot. Jess and I had Big Macs and the kids shared some McNuggets, fries, and a vanilla shake. Ryan had fallen asleep on the walk over to McDonalds, so once we got back to the Airbnb, he wasn't all that tired for nap. Eventually, he started to wear down and he and Jessica went down for a nap while Luke and I hung out on the couch in the living room and watched Octonauts and ate some candy (shhh!). I may have gotten in a couple 20 minute naps as well.

Once everyone was awake, we hung out in the apartment for a bit. The down side about apartments in the Old Town are that they all tend to be quite small. So, we were feeling a bit cooped up and around 5:00, we headed back out to get some dinner. For our last night in Bratislava, we found a casual/traditional restaurant called Slovak Pub. After finding a seat, Luke was quickly occupied with his tablet (which he called his "camera") and watching Octonauts while playing with his sea creatures. This allowed Jess and I to relax a bit as she ordered the bread bowl garlic soup and a chicken caesar salad, while I got the beef goulash and the pub's own brew. Everything was very delicious and the kids ate a bit of everything.

After dinner, we strolled through the Old Town some more and Jessica got a Trdelnik (chimney cake) from a small shop which she thought was for her, but ended up being consumed mostly by the boys. We stopped by the main square again so the kids could run around a see the fountain and walk through the mist arch. Back at the apartment, Luke wasn't long for this world and, despite putting up a good fight, fell asleep almost immediately. Ryan took a bit longer because he was all amped up from the chimney cake, but soon enough he crashed as well. Jess and I are just kickin back and watching Netflix right now (new NFL documentary - "Quarterback"). We might start doing some packing soon since we will be off to a new destination tomorrow - Banska Stavnica!

Stay tuned!!
