Day 8
It's Adam for Day 8!
We really enjoyed our time in Bratislava, but sadly it was time to go. We slept in a bit and the checked out around 9AM, walked back to our parking garage, filled up the gas tank, and headed out of town. Heading northeast, our next destination was Banska Stiavnica, located in the mountains of central Slovakia. The drive took a short hour and 45 minutes - although we had to drive around a bit to find a parking spot.
Banska Stiavnica is a preserved medieval town that is mostly known for its mining history. Although nowadays it is filled with a bunch of quaint cafes and restaurants which makes for a fun tourist destination. The main street is located on a large slope and of course our car was parked at the very bottom. So, here we were again pushing the double stroller uphill. About halfway up we stopped for a quick ice cream cone to share as we waited for our lunch restaurant to open.
For lunch we picked ERB Brewery, the town's lone brewery. Once inside, they sat us up on the second floor on a real nice outdoor patio overlooking the neighborhood. For lunch, we all shared the cheese and prosciutto plate, and then Jessica ordered the chicken with mushroom risotto and I, once again, got the beef goulash. They served complimentary baked pretzels at the table which the kids loved, and they also ate a little bit of everything else. Overall, it was a really great meal.
From there, we walked up the the Holy Trinity Square, where Luke played with another fountain (this is becoming a theme). At the top of the square, we stopped at a little bakery to get some pastries/cookies for dessert.....delicious! Around this time, we got word that our Airbnb was ready for check-in, so we slowly started working our way back down the hill to the car. The Airbnb is located just south of Banska Stiavnica in a small town named Svaty Anton. On the way, we stopped at a grocery store to stock up on supplies and get food for dinner.
This Airbnb was much larger than in Bratislava so we were glad to be able to stretch out. It also has a nice patio that overlooks the nearby mountains and a yard with a swing set and sandbox for the boys. We relaxed for most of the afternoon/evening and the kids played outside for a while. I cooked up some grilled vegetables and kielbasa sausages on the barbecue for dinner and everyone seemed pleased.
Due to the timing of our drive and sightseeing, Ryan didn't get his usual naps in today, so he had an early bedtime. But Luke was also tired and followed shortly thereafter. For the rest of the evening Jessica and I have just been hanging out on the couch watching more Netflix and even tested out the indoor sauna that came with this place. I'm getting sleepy now though so I will wrap it up. Stay tuned!!
